A Prayer Attributed to St. Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace.

Where there is hatred, let me sow love.
Where there is offense, let me sow forgiveness.
Where there is discord, let me sow unity.
Where there is error, let me sow the truth.
Where there is doubt, let me sow faith.
Where there is despair, let me sow hope.
Where there is darkness, let me shine forth Your light.
Where there is sadness, let me sow joy.

O Lord. grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
Grant that I may not so much seek to be understood as to understand;
And grant that I may not so much seek to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that one receives,
it is in forgetting oneself that one finds,
it is in forgiving that one is forgiven,
and it is in dying that one awakens to eternal life. Amen.
